Reflections on Editing and Classroom Issues on Wikipedia---YAN JINJIN(염금금)

 1.Summary

This week, I learned how to edit the Wikipedia sandbox and tried editing the sandbox. Users can freely edit, test, and practice editing techniques without affecting pages with formal content. New users can try editing and formatting content in a sandbox to understand Wikipedia's editing rules without worrying about damaging existing page content. Sandboxes can serve as a safe environment for practice until users have confidence in their edits.

In addition, the two discussion questions raised in this week's class gave me my own thoughts.

1.If Wikipedia improves its English coverage of Korean topics, how will South Korea benefit?

Improving English coverage of Korean topics on Wikipedia will significantly enhance Korea's international image and help the global community better understand its culture, history, and society. This not only attracts more foreign tourists, thereby promoting tourism, but also attracts foreign investment to drive Korea's economic development.

2.Do you think Wikipedia is reliable? Can you trust it?

I think Wikipedia can be reliable, especially for general knowledge. Many articles are carefully edited and referenced, and experts often contribute to them. it's good to use it as a starting point and double-check important info.So i can trust it.

2.Interesting points

The translation explores the impact and reliability of information dissemination, and raises questions about Wikipedia's reliability and credibility as an open editing platform, particularly how users assess its accuracy and authority among numerous information sources.

3.Discussion

In the digital age, have social media and open platforms (such as Wikipedia) had a greater impact on public opinion and knowledge dissemination than traditional media?

Comments

  1. Great insights! I agree that Wikipedia can be reliable with proper references, but it’s always good to double-check important info. As for your discussion, social media and open platforms have definitely had a bigger impact on knowledge sharing than traditional media. Keep it up!
