Week 1 - Edits I Made to Wikipedia This Week -- LIU ZIYE

 1) Summary and link to your edit:

This week, I focused on editing my Wikipedia user page, marking my very first attempt to personalize it. After accessing the examples provided by the professor, I explored various user pages and discovered many interesting templates. Although I was intrigued by the colorful boxes and layout elements, I lacked the technical knowledge to fully utilize them. As a result, my initial edits were simple, consisting only of basic text and formatting.

To make my user page appear less plain, I decided to add a language userbox template that reflects the languages I can read and write. This small change made the page feel more personal and dynamic. You can view my user page Poeyal

2) New, interesting, or unusual items learned:
Through this editing process, I learned that even user pages on Wikipedia follow a structured system of templates and formatting rules. I also discovered the vast community culture behind user pages—many experienced editors use them to showcase their contributions, interests, and editing philosophy. It inspired me to eventually build a more complete user profile in the future.

3) Question or discussion point:
One issue I encountered was the difficulty in understanding how to properly use complex templates, especially those that involve parameters or nested codes. I’m curious to learn how other students managed to design their user pages and whether there are beginner-friendly guides to customizing templates. Going forward, I hope to not only improve my editing skills on content pages but also make my user page more engaging and informative.
