Week 2. First look at Wikipedia ----HE ZIXUAN(하자선)

 Summary

This week we learned what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with global participation. It is free, open, and supports multiple language versions. The content of Wikipedia can be modified and updated by anyone, reflecting the concept of knowledge sharing.

Interesting points

The question mentioned in the course: Imagine a world where everyone can freely share all knowledge. Is this realistic? Although Wikipedia promotes the sharing of knowledge, there are still many challenges to fully realize a world where everyone can share and access all knowledge without barriers. For example, information accuracy and quality control issues, privacy and copyright protection issues, and differences in Internet access in different regions may affect the realization of this world. Therefore, although free sharing is beneficial, appropriate rules are needed to ensure the accuracy and security of knowledge.

Discussion

Anyone can modify the entry. Although there are strict editing rules, this also means that wrong or biased views may exist or even be misleading.

Comments

  1. Although Wikipedia promotes global knowledge sharing, I recommend strengthening mechanisms for reviewing information to ensure its accuracy and fairness, particularly by introducing stricter quality control measures when users edit entries. Consider increasing transparency in expert reviews, editing history, and user feedback mechanisms to reduce the spread of misinformation and biases. Furthermore, Wikipedia should also strengthen measures to protect privacy and copyright, ensuring the legality of content and user safety, thereby promoting healthier and more sustainable development of knowledge sharing.
