Week 4. My Recent Wikipedia Edits - Jeong seolah (정설아)
I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Kimchi'.
Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish made from fermented vegetables, primarily napa cabbage and radish, and is a key staple in Korean cuisine. It is seasoned with chili pepper, garlic, ginger, and other spices, and is known for its unique, tangy flavor. Rich in vitamins and probiotics, kimchi is widely recognized for its health benefits. With a long history, kimchi holds cultural significance in Korea. It is typically served with nearly every Korean meal, and there is also the tradition of 'Kimjang,' where large quantities of kimchi are made during the winter.
Below is a summary of the changes I contributed.
1) Summarize and link
- "myeolchijeot (멸치젓) which produce a briny and savory flavor." → "myeolchijeot (멸치젓) which produces a briny and savory flavor.
Reason: I changed "produce" to "produces" to match the subject "myeolchijeot" (which is singular).
- "The typical kimchi for Hwanghae Province" → "The typical kimchi in Hwanghae Province"
Reason: I replaced "for" with "in" to accurately reflect the geographic location.
- "region has less color" → "region have less color"
Reason: "Region" is singular, so it should be "has," not "have." The current sentence structure needs correction for subject-verb agreement.
- "usually does not include" → "usually do not include"
Reason: "Varieties" is plural, so the correct form of the verb is "do," not "does."
- "tends to have less salt" → "tend to have less salt"
Reason: "Varieties" is plural, so the verb should be "tend," not "tends."
- "appeal for international markets" → "appeal to international markets"
Reason: "Appeal" should be followed by "to," not "for," when referring to attracting or appealing to markets.
- "beginning of processing determine the outcome of fermentation" → "beginning of processing determines the outcome of fermentation"
Reason: "Beginning" is singular, so the verb should be "determines," not "determine."
- "red pepper powder inhibit" → "red pepper powder inhibits"
Reason: "Inhibit" needs to be changed to "inhibits" to agree with the singular subject "red pepper powder."
- "mix in seasoning ingredients" → "mix in the seasoning ingredients"
Reason: I added "the" to specify the particular seasoning ingredients being referenced.
- "recognise" → "recognize"
Reason: "Recognize" is the correct spelling in American English, so I changed the British spelling "recognise" to the American version.
- "vowed to not eat kimchi" → "vowed not to eat kimchi"
Reason: I removed "to" to make the sentence grammatically correct.
- "and capital city Washington D.C." → "and the capital city Washington D.C."
Reason: I added "the" to properly introduce "the capital city" as a specific noun phrase.
- "states California" → "the states California"
Reason: I added "the" to clarify that it refers to the specific states (California) mentioned.
- "side-dish" → "side dish"
Reason: "Side dish" is the correct term without the hyphen.
- "fermenting vegetables, and burying it" → "fermenting vegetables, and burying them"
Reason: I changed "it" to "them" to match the plural subject "vegetables."
- "Attributed with the earliest kimchi" → "Attributed to the earliest kimchi"
Reason: I changed "with" to "to" to use the correct preposition in this context.
- "16th century" → "16th-century"
Reason: I added a hyphen to form a compound adjective when describing "century."
- "a salted seafood" → "salted seafood"
Reason: I removed "a" because "salted seafood" is an uncountable noun and doesn't require an article.
- "Kimchi Day: and capital city Washington D.C." → "Kimchi Day: and the capital city Washington D.C."
Reason: I added "the" to correctly refer to Washington D.C. as a specific location.
- "Kimchi Day: states California" → "Kimchi Day: the states California"
Reason: I added "the" to clarify that it refers to specific states (California) mentioned.
