Week1 - KIM JUHEE (김주희) : My First Wikipedia Edit
1. Summary + Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jujuheee0408
For my very first Wikipedia edit, I worked on customizing my user page. I used an existing template that someone else had created, and by adapting it to suit my own preferences, I was able to create a stylish and well-organized page. While I kept the original visual elements such as images and layout, I edited the content within the template to reflect my personal style and background.
2. New and Interesting Discoveries
I was genuinely surprised at how easy and simple it was to create a visually appealing page on Wikipedia. It only took a few small adjustments to transform a basic template into something unique and personal. I used to think of Wikipedia as a purely text-based, information-heavy platform, but working on this edit made me realize that there is actually room for design and creativity, especially on personal user pages. The idea that design can complement content on such an academic and informative site was refreshing and exciting.
3. Discussion Point
Although using templates to build a beautiful user page is a fantastic and accessible feature, it made me wonder about the original creators. Does borrowing someone else's template risk violating copyright? What are the rules or ethical guidelines we should follow when editing Wikipedia? I would like to explore more about what is allowed and encouraged within the Wikipedia community, and how we can respect each other’s contributions while still improving and building on them.
