Week2 - KIM JUHEE (김주희) : Reading Blog
1. Summary
I read the reading that was listed in the syllabus for the Friday class. I carefully read the page at this link: https://tinyurl.com/wikiprojects.
This page explains a lot about the course, especially about the assignments. It gives many details about what we have to do and how we should do the work. It also shows examples from the past classes, so I think it is helpful to understand how this class works. It was good to see how students before us did their projects and followed the schedule.
2. Interesting Points
I found the “student introduction” part very interesting. I used to think Wikipedia was very formal and only for experts because its main goal is to give correct information. But when I saw that many editors are students like me, I felt closer to the community. Also, I read that some people enjoy editing Wikipedia and do it as a hobby. That made me feel that Wikipedia is not only a place to share facts, but also a place to enjoy working together. It changed my idea about what kind of people use Wikipedia.
3. Question / Discussion Point
I remember the sentence that says “we are guests here.” That made a strong impression on me. I agree with this idea. So I wonder, what kind of attitude should we have when we edit Wikipedia? What if we try to make a good edit but someone thinks it is wrong? What should we do in that case?
