week1: “Introduction…” video watching blog-- LAOXINYI

1）Summary

A new semester has begun, and this time I have the opportunity to take a course on Wikipedia. Since coming across Wikipedia last semester, I have deeply fallen in love with this "Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge" platform. In class, the professor mentioned that Wikipedia is the world's largest source of information and one of the largest knowledge repositories. Moreover, it is a nonprofit organization that can be considered one of the top public welfare projects, with over 12,000 websites citing or supporting it. More importantly, Wikipedia is free and completely free.

However, while the content on Wikipedia is freely accessible and most uses a Creative Commons license, this does not mean that all content can be used freely. Generally, anything we create is copyrighted, such as notes we write in class, which may involve copyright infringement or even legal issues if we use someone else's notes or works without permission.This also made me realize that how to use various resources legally and reasonably is an important skill.


2）Interesting Point

Therefore, I believe one practical skill that can be learned from this class is how to use a program, how to utilize information resources, and how to use various tools legally. Understanding the balance between knowledge sharing and copyright protection.

    When I need to learn something new, I usually start with Wikipedia for its broad topics and quick overview. While it may have some inaccuracies, I verify the information with other reliable sources. Its open collaboration model provides different perspectives and updated content, making it a valuable learning tool.

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve. However, articles edited only by non-experts can cause misunderstandings and convey incorrect information, so openness can be considered a double-edged sword.
