Week1:The experience of editing Wikipedia--ZHANG XIAOTONG(장효동)
Summary
Wikipedia is the world's largest free encyclopedia. It provides an open platform for anyone to participate in editing, creating and disseminating knowledge. In the first week of class, I learned more about Wikipedia and participated in editing. I found that for Wikipedia editors, this is not only a way to share knowledge, but also a unique learning experience.
Interesting points
1. Knowledge contribution
When I edit Wikipedia, the greatest pleasure is to contribute knowledge directly. Seeing that the articles I have modified or the content I have added can be used by readers all over the world makes me feel magical and satisfied. When editing Wikipedia, because I have to conduct in-depth research on a certain topic and integrate scattered information into a rigorous article, this process of sorting and summarizing also makes me feel very accomplished.
2. Open democracy
Anyone can edit, modify and improve entries. This model makes the dissemination of knowledge more open and democratic. Every time the edit of Wikipedia is completed and published, you can see your own modification record in the edit record. Not only yourself, but anyone's edits will be publicly recorded, which also reflects the openness of Wikipedia.
Discussion
Although the openness of Wikipedia is a major advantage, it also brings some issues that need further discussion. The quality of Wikipedia's content is uneven. Some areas may have more comprehensive information, while other areas lack complete information due to low attention. Moreover, because anyone can edit, the reliability of Wikipedia's information is also under investigation, and biased information or content that is not fully verified may appear. Therefore, how can Wikipedia improve the quality of information while being free and open?
