Week3-Global knowledge sharing practices of the "Universal Encyclopedia"--JIANGJIASHAN(강가삼)

 Summary:

In my view, Wikipedia, as a paradigm of knowledge sharing, has played an irreplaceable role in promoting global knowledge dissemination and cultural exchange. Its principles of openness, transparency, and neutrality have earned it widespread trust and support.

The predecessor of Wikipedia was Nupedia, founded by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger in March 2000. Nupedia is a free encyclopedia written by experts, featuring a rigorous peer review process but progressing slowly, with only a few articles completed by 2001. To accelerate content production, Larry Sanger proposed using Wiki technology (a tool that allows users to collaborate on editing web pages). On January 10, 2001, the Wiki version of Nupedia was officially launched. Afterward, Wikipedia introduced a multilingual version, and as user numbers increased, it gradually formed community rules and editorial guidelines.

The development of Wikipedia is a history of openness, collaboration, and innovation. From a small experimental project to the world's largest knowledge base, Wikipedia has not only transformed how people acquire knowledge but also showcased the power of collective wisdom in the internet age.

Interesting point:

Wikipedia allows anyone to view the editing history of articles and understand the process of content modification. This transparency helps enhance the credibility of the content while also allowing users to trace the source and evolution of the information. So I think it's a very good approach for the rigor of encyclopedias.

Discussions:

For the "Universal Encyclopedia" Wikipedia in the future, artificial intelligence tools can be utilized to improve the efficiency of content management. For example, AI can help detect malicious edits, identify misinformation, and even assist in generating content. What's your opinion?

Comments

  1. As information increases, the spread of misinformation becomes more severe. AI can help identify and label potentially false or misleading information by analyzing large amounts of data. This not only enhances the credibility of the content but also helps users quickly obtain more accurate information.
