week3-Wikipedia editor---HE ZIXUAN

 1. Summary

This week I tried Wikipedia's sandbox editing. Wikipedia's "Sandbox" is a page where users can freely experiment with editing. It allows novices to practice modifying, formatting, and adding information without affecting the content of the official entries. I tried to add articles that I needed to translate to the sandbox and learned how to use the sandbox.

Afterwards, I analyzed the question raised in class - Do you think Wikipedia is reliable?

Wikipedia's open source editing model means that both experts and ordinary users can contribute content, and this model promotes knowledge sharing. I think it is reliable

2.Interesting Points

This week I learned the importance of references. The reliability of Wikipedia is closely linked to its references. High-quality articles usually come with citations from authoritative sources, while those that lack reliable sources are marked as "needs citation" or deleted. Therefore, when using Wikipedia, it is crucial to check the sources it cites.

3. Discussion

Do you think Wikipedia is a trustworthy source of knowledge? If you were to write a research paper, would you cite Wikipedia?

Comments

  1. Your blog gives great insights into Wikipedia's sandbox and the importance of references. I agree that checking sources is crucial for reliability. For research papers, use Wikipedia as a starting point, but always cite more authoritative sources for credibility. Keep up the good work!
