Week4----Edit Wikipedia---HE ZIXUAN

 1.summary

This week I edited Wikipedia, mainly adding citations. This was an experience that gave me a deeper understanding of how to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information. I found that adding citations correctly is not simply copying and pasting the source link, but carefully identifying the content of each citation to ensure their relevance and accuracy to the article content. This requires not only a certain level of critical thinking, but also strict judgment of the authenticity of the information. I deeply felt the importance of Wikipedia as a global collaborative platform.

2.Interesting Points

When adding citations to Wikipedia articles, I found the diversity of sources surprising. Some entries require citations to academic journals, books, or government reports, while others require news sites or blogs. Each citation must meet strict formatting requirements, which is not only to support the article, but also to ensure the authenticity of the content.
Another interesting observation was the strong focus on link validity on Wikipedia. Many citations need to ensure they are accessible over time, and some web pages disappear or change over time, causing links to become invalid. This made me realize that Wikipedia relies on a community of continuous updates and maintenance to ensure that all citations and links remain valid, which also brings an extra sense of responsibility to editors.

3.discuss

When adding citations to Wikipedia articles, it is common to encounter a situation where an article lacks enough reliable sources. This made me think about a question: when an article lacks enough reliable sources, how should we, as editors, deal with it? Should we wait for more reliable sources to appear before editing and updating, or choose not to cite anything for the time being to maintain the neutrality of the article.

Comments

  1. Your blog summary is clear, particularly regarding the strict requirements for citation sources and the validity of links. For the issue of "articles lacking reliable sources," I suggest you further explore how to balance neutrality with content updates, such as marking "required citations" when reliable sources are unavailable, gradually updating the content while maintaining objectivity and ensuring the integrity of the information.
