Week4 - Review about the readings for the next week. - Kwon Hyunji (권현지)

 1. Summary

Wikipedia's neutral perspective is discussed in this article. Due to the nature of Wikipedia, anyone around the world can participate in editing, so there are various arguments. Therefore, a neutral perspective plays a very important role in Wikipedia. Editors tend to reflect their opinions, so their opinions are naturally revealed in the article. However, articles that are not this neutral can be refuted by others, which in turn leads to editorial warfare. The criteria for neutrality are unclear, so we need to supplement them through the opinions and collaborations of various editors. As a result, Wikipedia has discussion pages, where you can listen to and modify your opinions.

2. Interesting Point

The most important keyword in this article is openness. Not only did I focus on the positive aspects of openness, but I also became interested in the issues that could arise from this. Openness provides people with opportunities to participate. However, there is a lot of debate about this in the open content community. Wikipedia is free and open, but this freedom and openness are limited when it gets in the way. However, this leads to a certain minority being alienated and distorted information being delivered. I think this is a characteristic of the open content community. Because the majority exists, minority opinions appear relatively small. Therefore, appropriate action is needed to prevent this. Wikipedia can grow into a better community when we consider more diverse cases and consider each other to create an encyclopedia.

3. Discussion

Wouldn't the principle of neutrality in Wikipedia restrict the opinions of various people? If there are various opinions, wouldn't Wikipedia be closer to a collection of people's opinions than to its role as an encyclopedia?
