Week4 Wikipedia Edit- CHEN SIWEN 진사문
1. Summary
This week, I focused on Wikipedia citation editing and learned about its importance in enhancing article credibility and accuracy. I realized that adding citations is not just about linking sources but ensuring their relevance, reliability, and neutrality. Editing Wikipedia requires critical thinking and collaboration, with each edit contributing to a global shared resource.
2.Interesting Highlights
Wikipedia allows citing various types of sources, such as news reports, blogs, and social media, which differs from traditional publications that rely mainly on academic sources. This flexibility brings diverse viewpoints but also makes it more challenging to assess the reliability of sources. I also noticed that Wikipedia links can become invalid over time, requiring continuous updates, which means editors take on additional responsibility.
3.Discussion
Wikipedia's openness raises the challenge of assessing the credibility of sources. To address this, clearer guidelines and tools are needed to help editors evaluate sources effectively. Additionally, maintaining article neutrality and ensuring information accuracy are key issues editors must navigate.
Wikipedia needs to improve its guidelines and tools to help editors more accurately assess the reliability of information sources and ensure the fairness and accuracy of content. By strengthening review mechanisms and community collaboration, information quality can be improved, bias and errors reduced.
ReplyDeleteI think Wikipedia encourages the use of news reports, academic sources, etc. as references rather than social media and blogs, probably because they value reliability and accuracy. Wikipedia reviews references and sometimes removes sentences from incorrect sources, which I think makes Wikipedia a high-quality internet encyclopedia.
