Week 1. Wikipedia editing experience -----HE ZIXUAN(하자선)

 Summary

In the first week, I learned about Wikipedia and tried to edit the user page of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an open encyclopedia with free and shared functions. On Wikipedia, I can see the articles of all participants, and I can also actively participate in contributions to improve my knowledge. I will have a deeper understanding of the role of Wikipedia and promote my personal ability.


Interesting points

The interesting project is to edit Wikipedia and translate articles that need to be completed this semester. Let us complete academic tasks through weekly requirements. Such courses can improve our research ability and contribute to Wikipedia. But in fact, this task is not simple, so students need to learn by themselves.


Discussion

Although Wikipedia has open functions, it still has some difficulties. How can Wikipedia better guide novices to improve editing skills.

    To better guide new Wikipedia editors and enhance their editing skills, I suggest improving Wikipedia by providing more detailed tutorials and video guides to help users better understand the editing process; creating an interactive learning platform to practice editing and receive real-time feedback; finally, optimizing tools and interfaces. These improvements not only help beginners quickly master editing skills but also inspire more people to participate in the global sharing of knowledge.

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve. However, articles edited only by non-experts can cause misunderstandings and convey incorrect information, so openness can be considered a double-edged sword.
