Summary

My first time editing Wikipedia introduced me to an unprecedented level of rigor and engagement. I initially thought it was a simple task that one could complete with a few minor tweaks, but as I delved deeper, I discovered that every change requires thorough fact-checking, previewing, and strict adherence to objectivity and formatting standards. It is precisely this self-discipline and transparency that have transformed Wikipedia into a true public knowledge platform, where every edit subtly contributes to the enhancement and preservation of collective wisdom.

Interesting Points

During the editing process, several details left a strong impression on me: the multiple previews before publishing, the immediate feedback from automated bots on formatting issues, and the transparent record of every edit made. This constant supervision and feedback not only enforce a meticulous approach to knowledge but also instill a sense of responsibility and pride in each contributor as we collectively maintain our "public memory." These intriguing aspects make the editing process both ceremonial and challenging.

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve.
