week 6 : my recent wikipidia edits - ljhwa(이진화)
The articles I edited this week are about the K-pop girl groups GFriend and VIVIZ. VIVIZ is a group formed by several former members of GFriend. While GFriend enjoyed significant recognition, they went through a one-sided and unfavorable situation during their separation from their agency. Because this was an unfair and unilateral incident, I believed it was important to make this fact more clearly known, which is why I decided to edit the article.
Below is a summary of the changes I have contributed.
- editing of Wikipedia in English
1~2. Added sentences and references : On October 7, 2021, at 2 p.m., it was revealed that they participated in the 2022 S/S Seoul Fashion Week as their first official schedule.[4]
3~4. Added sentences and references : On January 21, 2022, at 12 p.m., the agency revealed VIVIZ's official fan club name, Na.V, on VIVIZ's official Twitter account.[6]
5. Correction of incorrect references : I confirmed and corrected the incorrect reference that was attached to the phrase “…started a viral dance challenge.”
6~7. Added sentences and references : The lead single of the EP, "Maniac," has become the group's most successful single to date. Although it showed somewhat underwhelming performance upon release, it gained significant attention after promotions ended thanks to the "Pop Your Ongdong" dance challenge, eventually reaching as high as number 14 on the Korean Circle Chart.[17]
8. Add references : defined by the agency as "the meaning of becoming artists who always proudly express their own colors to the world."[1]
9. Addition of a paragraph : 'Rotating Leader' system Within the Group
10. Addition of a table : past leader of table
11~14. Add references : references 21~24

Any new, interesting, or unusual items learned
GFriend and VIVIZ share a unique relationship that sets them apart from other girl groups. The artists in VIVIZ are both members of VIVIZ and, in a sense, still GFriend. This is likely an unprecedented case in the entertainment industry. I felt that it was important to properly and clearly document this situation. Additionally, since the dispute in question is between a company and individuals, I believe contributing to Wikipedia with fair and balanced information can help maintain the platform’s neutrality.
Identify at least one question, concern, or discussion
Artists often share a lot of information through communication with their fans. However, most of this information is intended for fans and can be somewhat inaccessible to the general public. This is especially true for content shared through paid services. Once such information is added to Wikipedia, it becomes available to people who have not paid for access.
This raises a question: Is it acceptable to include information from paid services on Wikipedia? And does such an act go against the principles of a capitalist society?

ReplyDeleteWhat are the privileges fans get from membership subscriptions? Presale concert tickets, limited-edition merchandise, and permission to join closed fan communities... Most K-pop fans using Weverse and Bubble do not want the paid services to be posted on social media. Right or wrong, however, this is reality. We can consume membership content on X and Instagram without payment thanks to someone. Countless K-pop concerts are recorded on YouTube. It would be perfectly acceptable if such paid content is only posted on Wikipedia. (at least it promotes the right to know) Sorry membership fans, but free riders are everywhere.
