Week 7. My Recent Wikipedia Edits- BAI SHIQI

 Summary

This week, I edited an article on "civil society" from Wikipedia. I thought it would be a simple task, but once I started, I realized it was much more complex than I had anticipated. The concept of civil society can mean different things in different countries, making it difficult to translate and organize content.

Challenges

1. Different meanings in various cultures

In some places, civil society primarily refers to non-governmental organizations and public advocacy groups. In other cases, this is more about the efforts of local communities and volunteers. I must be careful with my wording to avoid confusing readers from different backgrounds.

2. Unclear terms

Some terms are not directly translated. For example, "advocacy groups" can have multiple interpretations. I had to consider the context and sometimes rephrase it to make the meaning clearer.

3. Local unknown references

Many examples in the article come from specific countries. Readers from elsewhere may not be aware of this information, so I had to provide further explanation or find other ways to present it.


Reflection

Despite the challenges, I learned a lot about how civil society operates in different places. I also saw the importance of accuracy in translation and editing. This is not just about the words; it's about making ideas clear and easy to understand.

Week9-----WikipediaEdit--HE ZIXUAN

1. Summary This week, I participated in the editing of the Wikipedia entry "Wenchuan Earthquake". The earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008, which is one of the most serious natural disasters in China in recent years. By consulting official reports, academic literature and various documentary materials, I supplemented and corrected some of the content in the entry, especially adding more information on the background of the earthquake, rescue operations and subsequent reconstruction. 2.
