week 8 : my recent wikipidia edits - ljhwa(이진화)
As is the case with most sports, athletes often attain a status similar to that of celebrities. Esports, in particular, can be considered more accessible to the general public than other traditional sports, as many people can easily engage with and play the games themselves. As a result, more individuals are able to clearly recognize the players' skills, which naturally leads to admiration and acknowledgment of the players. Through this process, esports continues to sustain both revenue and public interest. Today, we explored the professional gamers who are central to this very process.

He is like a pioneer who first entered the esports market. However, as esports in Korea began to develop in earnest and went through a phase of transformation, he struggled to keep up and was eventually pushed overseas.
The career span of a professional gamer is generally shorter than that of athletes in other sports, yet he continued his professional career for as long as four additional years. It is truly admirable that he made such an effort for so long in a place where he didn’t even speak the language.
Identify at least one question, concern, or discussion
After his retirement, he has been working as an instructor to train aspiring professional gamers. The range of career options available to retired pro gamers is extremely limited, and becoming an instructor is one of the few viable paths. If a player has had a particularly successful career, they may go on to become a coach or a team manager—but such opportunities are rare.
As the celebrity-like status of esports players is only now beginning to emerge, it raises the question of what kind of welfare or support systems teams—who essentially function as their agencies—can offer to retired players. For example, providing priority consideration for coaching positions within the team could be one possible form of support.
I do not know much about Esports players, but I think their post-retirement life will be pretty much the same as most sports players. YouTubers, commentators, coaches, what else? Unpopular players are excluded from the game industry after retirement. They just work or do business like any other person. The first generation of Esports players in Korea are StarCraft players. Unfortunately, Koreans do not remember any of them except for "star players" like Lim Yo Hwan, Hong Jin Ho, and Guillaume Patry.
