Week6：My Wikipedia Edit-----MUYE

 

This week, I continued my work on Wikipedia editing and translation, focusing on translating another article. During the translation process, I learned how to change the format of referenced links to the Chinese version and how to use templates effectively. These new skills not only enhanced the professionalism of the translation but also made the page presentation more standardized and visually appealing.

Compared to my previous editing experiences, this translation was much smoother and faster, thanks to the knowledge I had gained earlier. At the same time, I realized an important oversight I had made in my past edits: I had not been providing an explanation in the “Edit Summary” after each change. It was only after my professor’s reminder that I understood the importance of explicitly stating the reason for each edit and ensuring that any added or modified content is supported by reliable sources. This guideline is crucial for maintaining the quality and transparency of the entries.

Additionally, I proactively visited and participated in the "Talk Page" of relevant articles, observing how other editors engage in discussions and negotiations about controversial content. This process gave me a deeper understanding that Wikipedia is not only an open knowledge platform but also a collaborative community. Communication and consensus among editors are essential for maintaining objectivity and continuously improving the content.

Overall, this week’s Wikipedia editing experience significantly enhanced both my technical skills and my awareness of the platform’s rules. It also deepened my understanding of the value of collaboration in an open knowledge platform.

Week 1. My Recent Wikipedia Edits - Jeong seolah (정설아)

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve.
