Week7 Artificial Intelligence and Wikipedia-Kwon Hyunji(권현지)

 1. Summary

ChatGPT wrote Wikipedia articles and conducted activities to compare them to real-life Wikipedia articles. In addition, I have also used a site called STORM, another AI, which appears in a similar format to Wikipedia articles. Indication in the form of sources or pages is similar to Wikipedia, which sometimes produces more detailed information than what appears on Wikipedia. In this way, the use of AI can further develop Wikipedia. Adding new content to AI, the way we currently use it, can engagepeople. The spread of misinformation caused by AI use can be corrected through human participation. AI and people can complement each other. However, among the content AI generates, the content often creates distorted content about marginalized and marginalized groups. It is also more likely to spread disinformation.

2. interesting part

I was surprised that there are more cases of using artificial intelligence in the Wikimedia Project than I thought. We are using AI to improve the quality of content, and we are also conducting activities to directly verify that AI's results are acceptable and constructive, and to modify or remove them if not. If these activities continue, AI will be able to develop further in the Wikipedia community. We also asked ChatGPT how they would use AI in Wikipedia. CHATGPT suggested support for drafting, document translation, typo, grammar, style detection, source review and suggestion, automatic notification of backward documents, discussion summary, topic recommendation/unwritten document prediction, etc. Among them, I thought that document writing and translation support, automatic notification of backward documents, and prediction of topic recommendation/unwritten documents could be practically utilized.

3. Question

Other than the method suggested by ChatGPT, what are some ways to use AI on Wikipedia?

Is there any possibility of another problem caused by AI other than the previous one? If so, how can I use AI to supplement it?

Comments

  1. I really liked your summary it was clear and helped me understand how AI and Wikipedia can work together. I also found it interesting that you mentioned STORM and how it makes the articles look more like real Wikipedia pages. Your point about AI being helpful but still needing human checks is so true. I also agree that features like translation support and topic prediction could be very useful in the future.
