Week7:My Wikipedia Editing and Theoretical Learning------MUYE

 This week, I continued to deepen my learning and involvement in Wikipedia editing, while also making progress in other areas. Specifically, I worked on the following:

1.Wikipedia Editing: I edited the article on [insert specific article name], where I updated content and corrected errors. During the editing process, I enhanced certain sections, corrected outdated information, and updated relevant references. This editing experience gave me a better understanding of Wikipedia’s editing standards, especially regarding the accuracy of information and the reliability of sources.

2.Film Analysis: I completed the analysis of the film The Truman Show. Through multiple viewings of the film and applying relevant theories, I deeply analyzed the characters' behaviors and social interactions. This analysis allowed me to gain a clearer understanding of Goffman’s dramaturgical theory, identifying numerous examples of “front stage” and “back stage” behaviors, which enhanced my ability to apply theoretical frameworks in film analysis.

3.Learning William Whyte’s Theory: This week, I further studied William Whyte’s theory, particularly his research on public space design. Through my in-depth reading, I not only grasped his perspectives on human behavior and space interaction but also applied these theories to observe and analyze public spaces in daily life. Whyte’s theory emphasizes the impact of human traffic, seating arrangements, and environmental design on public spaces, helping me better understand how design can foster interaction and communication among people.

4.Reading The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces: In addition, I read The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces, a book that analyzes small public spaces in cities. The book helped me realize that successful urban spaces often offer a variety of activity areas and comfortable environments. Combining this with Whyte’s theories, I gained a deeper understanding of how to design public spaces that encourage social interaction and enhance a sense of community.

Overall, this week’s learning provided me with valuable insights in various areas, from Wikipedia editing skills to theoretical studies. By combining film analysis with spatial theories, I’ve become more aware of the broad application of these theories in real-life contexts.

Week 1. My Recent Wikipedia Edits - Jeong seolah (정설아)

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan. With a population exceeding 2.3 million, it is the fourth-largest metropolitan city in South Korea and the second-largest in the Yeongnam region after Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve. However, articles edited only by non-experts can cause misunderstandings and convey incorrect information, so openness can be considered a double-edged sword.
