Week8 Wikipedia Category Activity- Kwon Hyunji(권현지)
1. Summary
I learned how to add and edit categories in
Wikipedia. I also explored how to describe images by referring to
subcategories. Categories briefly explain the contents of images with the same
meaning as tags that we know. And it is important to specify categories. Because
the more specific the categories are, the more meaningful they are when
specifying these categories. The easiest way to create these categories is to
change the categories in relation to the top categories of similar categories. For
example, literature in the 2010s, literature in the 21st century, and so
on. The purpose of this activity is to understand the category system of
the Wikimedia project through the above activities and to organize the content
more systematically. During the lecture, I added one or more categories to the
Wikimedia Commons image. I added categories to the photos I uploaded, and I
also added them to the images posted by others.
2. Interesting points
I started to think about how to add and edit categories, and how to classify them in more detail. At first, I was worried about what to present in the process of classifying categories in detail, but I was able to find the right category through the activity of changing them in relation to the higher category. Instead of adding any categories, I thought about whether it would be easier for people to understand and acted on it. I learned how to use Wikipedia more appropriately by thinking about which categories would be more specific and useful and by making an effort to classify them into more suitable categories. As much as it can be accessed by many people, efforts should be made to help everyone.
3. Discussion
What other reason do you think specific
categories are important?
Is there anything else I should consider
when it comes to adding categories?
