Week 11---How to edit Wikipedia: From content creation to thinking challenges YANJINJIN(염금금)

1.Summary

I was editing an article about "Korean Wave" and I noticed that some recent trends and data were missing from the article, such as the influence of Korean Wave in globalization and cross-border cultural exchanges.

2.Interesting Points

First of all, the most interesting part of editing content is being able to see the impact of your contribution on users around the world. After each modification, Wikipedia will immediately show the update, and this instant feedback makes me feel that my work is very meaningful. At the same time, the editing process is also full of thinking, such as how to balance the accuracy and conciseness of information and avoid excessive stacking of redundant content.

3.Discussion

There are also some difficulties in this process. For example, sometimes it is necessary to refer to a large number of sources and ensure that they are reliable, which makes editing not just a simple text modification, but also a screening and selection of information sources.

Through this experience, I have a question: As users contribute more and more to Wikipedia, how can it ensure the fairness and objectivity of the content? After all, with millions of editors around the world, it is inevitable that there will be different opinions and biases. This is a problem that Wikipedia needs to continue to improve.

Comments

  1. One challenge I faced during editing was ensuring the reliability of sources. Sometimes, it's not easy to determine whether a reference is objective or biased, especially when dealing with topics like culture or international influence. This raises a broader discussion point: how can Wikipedia maintain fairness and neutrality when so many users are editing the same content from different cultural or national perspectives?

As more users from diverse backgrounds contribute, it becomes essential to improve guidelines, editor training, and peer review processes to reduce unconscious bias and ensure balanced representation of global topics like the Korean Wave.
