week 11 : my recent wikipidia edit - ljhwa(이진화)

Edward Gaming is a professional esports organization based in China. They operate competitive teams in Riot Games titles, specifically League of Legends and VALORANT. In the League of Legends scene, they have a long-standing history and are the only LPL team to have won both the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) in 2015 and the World Championship in 2021. In the VALORANT division, they also hold the distinction of winning the 2024 VALORANT Champions.

The documents I edited today are BLG, EDG (English), and EDG (Korean).

Any new, interesting, or unusual items learned

The EDG article provides information on which players were newly recruited and which ones left the team. Although the historical rosters are not neatly organized, the article offers enough detail to understand who has been part of EDG over time. It also summarizes most of the key events that happened to the team each year, making it a document that aligns well with the founding purpose of Wikipedia. Furthermore, it includes written summaries not only of wins and losses and overall performance, but also of the team’s opponents in most matches and the point margins by which the results were determined. Although EDG shares the same identity as a sports organization and competes in the top league of the same country, it is interesting to see that its article differs significantly in structure and detail.

Identify at least one question, concern, or discussion

Given that both are sports teams, which of the two writing approaches would be more user-friendly for obtaining information?

Comments

  1. Preferences for the narrative style of an article may vary from person to person, but I believe EDG way is more suitable for obtaining information than BLG way. While the performance of a sports team is certainly important, it does not explain everything. Even without Wikipedia, we can easily access such information through news and social media. In contrast, the history of a sports team is not easy to know unless you are a fan. Moreover, such information is scattered across various places on the internet, making it difficult to access without Wikipedia. Although the content or format of a Wikipedia article is not strictly defined, there are still better examples.
