Week 11 Wikipedia edits- Kwon Hyunji (권현지)
1. Summary
I carried out an activity to edit an
article called 'Ilf and Petrov' this week. This article only existed in
English, so I needed a Korean translation. I did an activity to translate this
article into Korean. Also, I linked the reference document and the part that
needed explanation. I found something that could explain the document well
through the category. This article categorized the article into 'Soviet
Novelist', 'From Odessa', 'Writer of the 20th Century', 'Writer of the Soviet
Union', 'Writer of Russia', 'Writer of each country', and 'Pil name'. And I
made it possible to check the article by linking it with the existing 'Ilf and
Petrov' document in English. Finally, I completed this article and participated
in 'Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month 2025' competition. This article has a
total of 1,3262 bytes and has carried out new translation activities, so I can
receive a total of 23 points.
2. Interesting points
I didn't know that Wikipedia had a
conceptual competition, but I learned something new. This competition is
expected to be an opportunity to get interested in areas that I have not
usually been interested in. I also didn't know about the culture of Ukraine,
but through this opportunity, I became interested in recommended articles.
Activities that enhance the completeness of articles through competitions with
others can greatly contribute to the influence of Wikipedia in the future.
Various kinds of articles that did not exist before are produced and attract
people's interest. In addition, the quality of content can be improved through
competition in good faith with each other. I hope that I can produce and
participate in better articles through these activities in the future.
3. Discussion
What should we do to actively engage people
in competitions?
What part of the contest should be added to
make people interested?
To increase participation, offer attractive rewards, fun and relevant themes, simple rules, and interactive elements like voting, leaderboards, or mini challenges. Adding a “People’s Choice” award or stages can boost interest and engagement.
