Week 12: My Editing Practice on Wikipedia - Starting from the Research of Library Behavior-----MUYE
1) Edit and summarize
This week, I participated in editing the relevant entry of "University Library Usage Behavior" on the Chinese Wikipedia, adding a new section on the behavioral patterns of how students choose seats in the library and whether they are willing to share the space with strangers. The cited literature mainly comes from domestic journals such as "Library & Information" and "Journal of University Libraries", and the content involves concepts such as spatial allocation during peak hours and personal territory awareness. 2) Interesting discoveries
During the editing process, I found that the research content on library behavior in the Chinese Wikipedia is extremely limited, especially lacking perspectives from behavioral sociology and psychology. Furthermore, I also observed that the standards for source reliability in different items were inconsistent. For instance, some entries that use master's theses as citations are retained, while others are quickly deleted. This indicates that the implementation standard of "reliability" is still not transparent enough in the Chinese Wikipedia, bringing certain editorial risks.
3) Discussion perspective
One question I would like to raise is: How should we define the position of "marginal but meaningful" research materials on Wikipedia? For instance, should master's theses, local research, and articles in non-core journals all be excluded? If so, will the Chinese Wikipedia fall into "citation poverty", especially in the field of social sciences? I hope to discuss with my classmates whether we should promote the establishment of a more explicit citation evaluation mechanism on the Chinese wiki to encourage the presentation of diverse knowledge.
