week 12 : my recent wikipidia edits - ljhwa(이진화)

Edward Gaming, established in 2013, is supported by numerous sponsors. These sponsors are typically visible on the team’s uniforms. As the scale of sponsorship increases, the sponsor’s logo is placed in more prominent positions on the uniform, and the team is more likely to be invited to related events. In some cases, contracts may include obligations to continuously display the sponsor’s logo during personal broadcasts that are related to the players' individual income streams.

The documents I edited today are EDG (English and Korean).

European esports teams are often established to participate in a wide range of game titles, and a prime example of this is the European team 'fnatic.' Fnatic not only operates in globally popular games but also forms professional teams in relatively lesser-known titles. Sometimes, they acquire local teams and rebrand them under the 'fnatic' name. In contrast, EDward Gaming (EDG) originated from a team founded by a private company. While European teams are typically formed through the merger of several smaller teams, EDG was created solely through the backing of a single private enterprise. The fact that a private company alone can support a gaming organization of this scale highlights one of the reasons esports has been able to thrive in China.

Identify at least one question, concern, or discussion

In sports-related articles, I believe the most important elements are the team’s performance and a clear listing of its roster. Given that one-year contracts are more common than multi-year ones in esports, is it really necessary to include information about "former player lineups"? I’m concerned that it might make the article excessively long.

Comments

  1. When addressing this issue, it may be helpful to refer to articles about football or baseball teams. Wikipedia articles on sports teams are expected to provide a comprehensive description of the team history. Limiting the roster section to only "currently active" or "long-term contracted" players does not align with that purpose. If the team is well-known and popular, it is likely that players—even those with relatively short careers—would wish to have their names included on Wikipedia. The right to information should be ensured not only for the players themselves, but also for fans and Wikipedia users alike.
