Week 12 - Wikipedia Edits (Chaebin Park 박채빈)
1. Summary
This week, I edited the Wikipedia page for the "National Folk Museum of Korea". I added significant historical event dates to the “History” section and included more specific information regarding those events. I also updated basic visitor information, such as opening hours and admission fees. Additionally, I revised the section on exhibitions and events to reflect the current offerings. When I first reviewed the page, it contained outdated information about past exhibitions, so I felt it was necessary to update it with the latest details.
2. Interesting Points
While editing the page, I found it interesting how quickly museums can change their exhibition programs, and how often these changes are not reflected on public platforms like Wikipedia. It was also fascinating to see how even small edits, like updating dates or correcting exhibition details, can significantly improve the accuracy and usefulness of a Wikipedia article. I realized the importance of maintaining up-to-date public information for both local and international visitors.
3. Discussion
This experience made me reflect on the role of collaborative editing in keeping shared knowledge current and reliable. Moreover, I noticed that editing Wikipedia requires accurate information and a good understanding of the platform’s formatting rules and citation standards.
