Week 13 Discuss the past readings - Kwon Hyunji(권현지)
1. Summary
In Wikipedia, 'classification' refers to
the ability to organize documents by subject so that users can easily find
relevant information. It is divided into upper and lower categories, and for
example, if animals are upper categories, cats belong to lower categories. And
it can quickly pass information to users through categories. When you raise a
category, you need to clearly understand the contents of the document, add and
modify the classification. Otherwise, it is because the classification is inconsistent.
Therefore, there should be no unclear or controversial classification. There
should be more than one category. And it should not be overly comprehensive or
detailed.
2. Interesting Point
It was interesting that the classification
affects the content of Wikipedia. Classification of documents from Wikipedia
can lead to a social and moral assessment of the subject. This is because for
one person, someone can be included in the category of positive words and
someone can be classified as negative words. For this reason, it is an area
where individual interpretation can be included, and it affects people who
encounter it. The classification itself is an act of editing, and a neutral
perspective should be maintained. In addition, when classifying, it can affect
users' unconsciousness because it affects search results. It should be noted
that information that is not true may spread or cause damage by giving a
negative perception of something that has not yet produced results. Therefore,
it was impressive that Wikipedia users should be more careful when doing
'classification' activities. This is because objectivity is lost in that one's
thoughts and interpretations can be involved, and an error occurs in
Wikipedia's principle that information must be delivered from a neutral
perspective.
3. Discussion
What should I pay attention to when
classifying?
If social influence and encyclopedic values
collide in the process of classification, what choice should I make?
