week 13 : my recent wikipidia edit - ljhwa(이진화)
Fnatic is an esports organization headquartered in London. Founded in 2004, the team competes in numerous gaming leagues and has been particularly active and successful in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC). In addition, it participates in many other popular game leagues, including Valorant and Overwatch 2. According to Forbes, Fnatic is valued at $260 million and is ranked among the top 10 most valuable esports organizations.
The documents I edited today are Fnatic (English and Korean).

Any new, interesting, or unusual items learned
Fnatic has temporarily withdrawn from the Dota 2 competitive league. I had thought that professional teams rarely withdraw unless a game loses popularity or the team performs extremely poorly, so seeing this happen is quite intriguing. A decline in a game’s popularity is directly tied to profitability, and poor team performance can affect brand value, making a team’s withdrawal from a league understandable. However, Fnatic’s Dota 2 team does not appear to fall under either of these reasons.
Identify at least one question, concern, or discussion
When many people contribute to editing a single article, formatting inconsistencies often arise. How can we resolve this issue? What are the official style guidelines recommended by Wikipedia? I believe that providing a standardized format for things like line breaks, date notation, and match result presentation might help address this problem.
I have seen your recent Wikipedia edits. I think that providing various references is more important than adding general content. In that sense, I am sure that your edits have helped Wikipedia's revival, even if only a little. Just as LoL was officially adopted as an Asian Games event, e-sports are also gradually establishing themselves as a sport. I think that by providing references that are helpful to this trend, you have contributed to the improvement of e-sports culture. Thank you for your hard work.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is more likely to arise from citation practices rather than from the textual content of the article itself. Regarding Wikipedia editing style guidelines, these are already well articulated in tutorials designed for beginners. The core problem, however, lies in our inability to fully comply with these rules. The most “ideal” solution would be for all contributors to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the editorial style and draft articles accordingly; yet, this remains an ideal in the literal sense. Imposing penalties on users who fail to adhere to formatting standards would contravene the foundational principles of Wikipedia. Ultimately, the key lies in habit formation. Perhaps organizing periodic initiatives, such as a “Citation Correction Campaign,” could be beneficial. Such efforts would greatly assist users in internalizing and consistently applying the editing style guidelines.
