New, interesting, or unusual items learned

In 2008, the ruling party at the time, the Grand National Party(한나라당), passed a revision to the Media Law, which allowed newspaper companies to own broadcasting stations. The three most widely circulated conservative daily newspapers in South Korea—Chosun Ilbo(조선일보), JoongAng Ilbo(중앙일보), and Dong-A Ilbo(동아일보)—each established their own television networks: TV Chosun, JTBC, and Channel A, respectively. The business daily Maeil Business Newspaper(매일경제) launched MBN. These networks have been in operation since 2010. In South Korea, they are collectively referred to as general programming cable channels(종합편성채널), or simply cable channels.

Question, concern, or discussion angle

JTBC was one of the most vocal critics of the government during the impeachment processes of the 18th President, Park Geun-hye, and the 20th President, Yoon Suk-yeol. Despite JoongAng Ilbo being a conservative-leaning newspaper, its affiliated broadcaster, JTBC, tends to have a relatively progressive orientation. Why is that? Is the JoongAng Group attempting to attract conservative readers through its newspaper, JoongAng Ilbo, while appealing to progressive viewers via its broadcaster, JTBC? Is this an effort to maintain political neutrality, or is it a sophisticated profit-driven strategy?

    JTBC’s progressive stance, despite its affiliation with the conservative JoongAng Ilbo, may reflect a strategic attempt to diversify political appeal across different media platforms. By catering to both conservative readers and progressive viewers, the JoongAng Group can maximize its audience and advertising revenue. This dual approach may help the group maintain influence across the political spectrum. While it could be interpreted as political neutrality, it is more likely a calculated, profit-driven strategy. Media pluralism within a single conglomerate can also hedge against political risks.

Week 1. My Recent Wikipedia Edits - Jeong seolah (정설아)

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan. With a population exceeding 2.3 million, it is the fourth-largest metropolitan city in South Korea and the second-largest in the Yeongnam region after Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve. However, articles edited only by non-experts can cause misunderstandings and convey incorrect information, so openness can be considered a double-edged sword.
