Week 7 - Fatima Paulina Lopez Diaz

 Why WikiLove Matters?

I think by this point of the course we all know know how rewarding—and sometimes exhausting— editing Wikipedia can be. Hours spent researching, writing, fact-checking, and cleaning up pages often go unnoticed. That’s why something as simple as a message of appreciation, like WikiLove, can mean so much.

WikiLove is a feature on Wikipedia that lets editors send friendly messages, thanks, or even virtual cookies to one another. It might seem small, even silly, but it actually plays an important role in keeping the community strong and motivated.

Editing Wikipedia can sometimes feel like shouting into the void. You fix a page, add reliable sources, or revert vandalism—and that’s it. No applause, no likes, no followers. But when someone sends you WikiLove, it reminds you that your work is seen and valued. It’s a quiet but powerful form of encouragement.

What’s beautiful about WikiLove is that it’s not about rewards or competition. It’s about kindness. It helps create a space where people feel welcome and respected. That positive environment makes it easier for new editors to stick around and for experienced ones to keep contributing.
