“How to Interact with Others? Wikipedia as a Community”

1. Summary

In this week’s class, we discussed how people interact with each other on Wikipedia, including editing articles and engaging with other users. Users can communicate and show appreciation on Wikipedia through user pages, talk pages, and the "WikiLove" feature. These tools play an important role in encouraging interaction and strengthening the sense of community within the platform. This highlights that Wikipedia is a place for sharing knowledge and a collaborative space where users work together to create high-quality content.





2. Interesting Point


I found the "WikiLove" feature especially interesting, as it emphasizes the importance of expressing appreciation and giving positive feedback to other users. Even small gestures like this can be highly motivating for new users and help them feel welcomed by the community. In addition, talk pages allow users to share not only compliments but also constructive feedback on editing practices. For example, I once received feedback from another user who reminded me of Wikipedia’s editing rules and pointed out mistakes in my edit. That feedback was very helpful for improving my future contributions.





3. Question


While these features are effective in promoting meaningful user interaction, many users are still unaware of their existence or unsure how to use them. Therefore, I believe Wikipedia should put more effort into introducing these tools to new users and fostering a culture of appreciation and feedback within the community. Ultimately, this would contribute to enhancing the overall quality of Wikipedia articles.

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve. However, articles edited only by non-experts can cause misunderstandings and convey incorrect information, so openness can be considered a double-edged sword.
