Over the past week, I continued my Wikipedia editing work with a focus on expanding the English-language content related to universities in my hometown, Chongqing. While browsing English Wikipedia pages, I discovered that many local institutions have limited or outdated descriptions, particularly regarding their campuses and infrastructure. To address this, I began translating and supplementing information about these universities, using both official Chinese-language sources and my own contextual knowledge.

Specifically, I worked on improving the English article for Chongqing Jiaotong University, where I added detailed descriptions of the Nan’an Campus and Science City Campus. For instance, I described the Nan’an Campus as the university’s administrative and research hub located at Xuefu Avenue 66, and noted that it hosts most upper-year undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also provided a concise but informative overview of the Science City Campus, highlighting its function for first- and second-year undergraduates, its size, topography, nearby natural landmarks, and the major facilities already constructed, such as the Experimental Center and the library.

In addition, I contributed new content to the English article on Chongqing Normal University, especially focusing on the university’s Library and Museum. I translated detailed information about the library’s holdings, physical space, digital resources, and its role in academic services. I also introduced the Museum section by outlining its founding history, relocation timeline, exhibition themes, and collection features. I emphasized the museum’s cultural significance in the University Town area and its importance to both education and public engagement.

While editing, I made sure to follow Wikipedia’s guidelines for neutrality, source citation, and encyclopedic tone. In particular, I was careful to provide verifiable references for all factual claims, and to translate institutional names and facility titles in a way that would be accessible and accurate for international readers.

One major challenge I encountered this week was verifying the English names of specific campus locations and buildings. Many of these institutions do not have official English-language websites or consistent naming standards across sources. As a result, I often had to cross-reference multiple platforms, including Chinese government education portals and media coverage, and sometimes made educated guesses based on existing translation conventions. In future edits, I would appreciate further guidance or tools to ensure consistency in such translations.

A question that arose for me was how to properly title newly translated subsections (e.g., "Science City Campus") when the institution does not officially provide an English equivalent. Should I translate these terms in brackets, or leave them in pinyin with contextual explanation? Clarifying this would help ensure greater accuracy and alignment with Wikipedia editorial standards.

Overall, this week’s editing deepened my understanding of cross-lingual content development. It also made me more aware of the importance of regional representation in global knowledge platforms. By contributing to the visibility of Chongqing’s academic institutions, I hope to make their resources and history more accessible to an international readership.
