Summary:

Wikimedia Commons is a volunteer-maintained media library that stores freely licensed photos, graphics, animations, music, videos, and other multimedia content for use by all Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia. Users can upload freely licensed media files, but must allow commercial use and the creation of derivative works.

The types of files that can be uploaded, such as images, audio, and video, are clearly defined and must comply with a free copyright license. Text content is not suitable for uploading to Commons, but can be uploaded to other Wikibooks or Wikisource. Uploaded files must be in the public domain or under a free copyright license. fair use content is not allowed to be uploaded because Commons content must be freely available worldwide. Once uploaded and authorized, the user cannot revoke the permission.

Commons uses the same MediaWiki engine as Wikipedia, but has many customized tools and templates. Users can upload files in batches and use the tool to rename and move files.

But there are many common problems. For example, how to handle upload errors, file renaming, cache problems, etc. How to search for images, create galleries, work with video and audio files, and more.


Interesting point:

As mentioned in the article, once a user uploads a file and chooses a free copyright license (such as CC BY or CC BY-SA), the user cannot revoke the license **. This means that even if the uploader later changes his mind, others are still free to use the files.


Discussion:

If a user uploads a file and opts for a free copyright license, but later discovers that the file has errors or they no longer want to share it, is there any way they can withdraw or delete the file?

    As a general rule, files uploaded under a free copyright license cannot be deleted or relicensed.
    However, you can request removal for special reasons, such as copyright infringement, incorrect license selection, or disclosure of personal information.
    In this case, you should include a request for deletion in the file's description documentation, or make the request directly to an administrator.
    Deletion is not allowed simply because you don't want to share it anymore.
    So it's important to think carefully before uploading.

 1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge.
