Week12---WikipediaEdit---HE ZIXUAN

1. Abstract

Recently, I made a small but meaningful edit in the Wikipedia entry for Guizhou Province: I added a link to the entry for the Guizhou specialty food mentioned. This operation made me deeply feel the openness and participation of Wikipedia, and also discovered a lot of little-known knowledge and community mechanisms hidden behind Wikipedia. This is not just a record of food, but also an intimate interaction with the knowledge sharing platform.

2.Interesting points

Wikipedia is not something you can save immediately when you want to edit

Every time I click "Publish Changes", the system prompts: "Please add a summary description." It turns out that Wikipedia encourages you to clearly explain the reason for each modification, even if it is just adding a link. This mechanism not only ensures transparency, but also reminds you that you are maintaining a "document for the collaboration of all mankind."Adding links to words such as "Zunyi Lamb Noodles" seems to be just a hyperlink action, but it is actually piecing together fragments of a regional culture into the global knowledge network. Every time you add a link, it is equivalent to helping more people jump from a word to a more complete knowledge page.

3.Discussion

"In an era where AI and search engines are becoming increasingly advanced, should we participate in building shared knowledge platforms like Wikipedia rather than just being consumers?"

    Although AI and search engines are increasing, I think we need to have a direct participation attitude. The establishment of a shared knowledge platform created by the development of AI can lead to errors in information. Therefore, humans must participate and supplement it to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Week 1. My Recent Wikipedia Edits - Jeong seolah (정설아)

I made several edits to the Wikipedia page for 'Daegu'.  Daegu, located in the southeastern part of South Korea, is the third-largest urban area in the country, following Seoul and Busan.  1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve. However, articles edited only by non-experts can cause misunderstandings and convey incorrect information, so openness can be considered a double-edged sword.
