Week13 - KIM JUHEE (김주희) : Reading

  1. Summary
This article explains the use of categories on Wikipedia in great detail. It describes how to properly use the category function, starting from basic page categorization to creating category pages, classifying articles, sorting draft pages, categorizing project pages, and even using templates for categorization. It also explains how to organize categories into category trees and how to use sorting keys. The article provides very thorough and specific information on how to categorize content correctly. In addition, it discusses what types of categories are inappropriate, so we can avoid making mistakes and follow the guidelines properly. Furthermore, there are a lot of additional reference points that are linked as words, like categories, which can help guide users in the right direction. These links make it easier to access more information on related topics.

  2. Interesting Points
At first, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information and the sheer number of categories. It made me realize just how many things need to be carefully considered when categorizing articles. Although it felt a bit daunting, I also think that these guidelines are essential for making sure good articles are created, and therefore, they will definitely be helpful. One part that I found particularly interesting was the section about organizing category trees. It was visually represented, making it easier to understand, and it was more engaging than the other parts of the article. I was also curious because I haven’t yet seen any articles that use such visual representations of categories, so now I want to explore more articles with similar visuals to learn how they are used.

  3. Questions and Discussion
How far can subcategories go? Is there no limit to how many levels a category can have? The sorting key system seems more complicated than I expected. How often do people actually use sorting keys? Have you ever used them yourself? There are so many things to keep in mind when categorizing, and it makes me wonder if there are people who truly have all of these details memorized or if they refer to these guides every time they need to categorize something.
