Week9-----WikipediaEdit--HE ZIXUAN
1. Summary
This week, I participated in the editing of the Wikipedia entry "Wenchuan Earthquake". The earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008, which is one of the most serious natural disasters in China in recent years. By consulting official reports, academic literature and various documentary materials, I supplemented and corrected some of the content in the entry, especially adding more information on the background of the earthquake, rescue operations and subsequent reconstruction.
2. Interesting points
During the editing process, I found interesting differences between public memory and documented records. For example, people generally remember that "the old county town of Beichuan was relocated as a whole", but the previous description of this in Wikipedia was very brief. One detail is that many people do not know that the national emergency response level at the time of the earthquake was actually the first use of China's "National Emergency Response Plan for Public Emergencies". These details may seem small, but they constitute an important part of our collective memory.
3. Discussion
Can Wikipedia become a “digital archive” of disaster memories?
