Extra Credit - A Day Without Modern Technology - SHAO TIANYI소염일

 What Happened

We challenged ourselves to live for one whole day without any modern tech — no phones, no Wi-Fi, no laptops, no smart devices at all.

Only tools available before the 20th century: handwritten notes, cash, face-to-face chats, and maybe a cookbook or two.

What We Felt

1. Life loses rhythm without tech

We didn’t expect just how central tech is to our routines. Simple things like checking the weather, setting reminders, or navigating the streets suddenly became confusing and slow.

2. Disconnected = Uneasy

Without group chats, apps, or notifications, we kept wondering if we were missing important updates. That silent anxiety lingered throughout the day.

3. Stillness has value

There were quiet moments we actually enjoyed — cooking from memory, flipping through physical books, or playing cards. No buzzing screens. Just time to breathe and think.

4. Studying was harder, but eye-opening

We managed to study using only paper materials. It worked — just not as efficiently. No quick search. No video explainers. No synced notes. Everything felt slower, heavier.

Our Thoughts

This wasn’t easy — but it was meaningful.

It made us realize how deeply our lives are wired into digital systems.

Going offline, even briefly, reminded us what uninterrupted time feels like.

Still, would we do it again soon? Probably not — but we’ll think twice before scrolling mindlessly next time.
