Week15:Recent Wikipedia edits--ZHANG XIAOTONG(장효동)
Summary
During my recent contribution to Wikipedia, I made a small but meaningful update to the article “To Live (novel).” The main changes included:
[1] "To Live by Yu Hua | Summary, Analysis, FAQ"
[4]"‘To Live’. www.arts.gov. 2016-08-18”
[22]“To Live: A Transition From Avant-Garde to Pragmatism"
Difference link:
The original entry [1] had unclear sources for the notes on the novel’s themes, so I replaced them with more reliable external sources. I also added two important points of information and attached corresponding external links. This edit enhances the entry’s historical accuracy and expands its cultural influence.
Interesting Points
1.I noticed that the original article contained a note about the novel’s theme that referenced an unreliable source. In fact, the citation did not lead to any verifiable content at all. I replaced this note with a new reference that came from a more reputable website, thereby improving the reliability and credibility of the information.
2.To supplement the article with more accurate content, I researched several Chinese and English platforms. It was particularly challenging to find records related to adaptations and awards. For instance, awards such as the “Boyaa Top 15 Books” and the “Bing Xin Literature Prize,” although influential in Chinese literary circles, are scarcely documented in English-language sources. Eventually, I located appropriate references from literary review sites and online databases and successfully added them to the article.
Related reflections:
Although this edit to the To Live article was relatively minor, it involved critical evaluation of source reliability, careful attention to wording, and a deeper understanding of the values behind open knowledge. If more people are willing to contribute truthful and accurate information to Wikipedia, the platform can become more trustworthy and comprehensive. This editing experience also raised a broader question: on an open platform, how can we encourage more users to actively participate in the verification of knowledge sources?
