 What did I learn while editing Wikipedia?

Wikipedia has strict format and neutrality principles. You cannot add subjective opinions or quote unsourced statements. I learned the criteria for a "reliable source", which must not only come from authoritative media or academic publications, but also be directly related to the content of the article and be clear and verifiable. I learned to use the footnote system and understood how to link references.In the information age, I am used to passively accepting knowledge, but editing Wikipedia has made me a builder and disseminator of knowledge. This experience has made me appreciate the charm of knowledge sharing.

How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments?

Unlike traditional homework, articles are published on a global public platform and may be read, cited, and modified by countless people. Editing Wikipedia is a process that can be continuously modified, improved, and collaborated with by others. This is something that is rarely experienced in classroom homework.

Is it more fun?

This assignment is indeed more interesting. It is more like a real-world task to contribute to knowledge that is useful to the public. In the editing process, I spent hours looking up information and correcting expressions without realizing it. The sense of immersion was very strong. I carefully read Wikipedia's "Editorial Guidelines", "Reliable Sources", "Neutrality" and other relevant rules, and felt that I was participating in a serious knowledge project.This assignment not only allowed me to exercise my ability to find materials and identify information, but also made me realize the significance of being a knowledge contributor. This way of learning is more challenging than traditional assignments, and at the same time, it is more realistic.

 1. Summarize in my own words of materials. The book is primarily about the openness of Wikipedia. Openness means that anyone can participate in the creation and editing of articles without any qualifications. Openness can be a double-edged sword. While it means that you can edit without having expert knowledge of a topic, it also means that you can participate even if you have expert knowledge. For experts, articles written by non-experts can come across as inaccurate knowledge, which can anger experts. This anger can also be a catalyst for Wikipedia to continue to improve.
