 Summary

Over the past week, I have added four citation sources to the Wikipedia article “The Lego Group”. These include:
[13] "The Disastrous Backstory Behind the Invention of LEGO Bricks"
[28] "LEGO Group increases net loss to DKK1,931m"
[34] "June 7, 1968: Legoland Opens in Denmark"
[35] "LEGOLAND Sierksdorf"

LEGO, one of the most well-known toy brands in the world, has not only built countless childhood dreams with its colorful bricks but also pieced together a story of globalized business success.

Interesting Points

1.LEGO is one of the world’s most iconic symbols of creativity, but few would expect that it once faced devastating fires and financial hardship. These challenges did not destroy the brand; instead, founder Ole Kirk Christiansen was driven by them to continue innovating, eventually developing the plastic brick system that lies at the heart of LEGO today.

2.Although the massive loss in 2004 was a devastating blow, it ultimately pushed LEGO to return to its roots—cutting unprofitable ventures and refocusing on its core system. This laid the foundation for the company’s rapid growth in the following decade. In a way, it was a “necessary loss.”

3.The first LEGOLAND park opened in 1968 in Billund, Denmark, and successfully attracted families from around the world. However, not every expansion was a success. The closure of the Sierksdorf park in Germany taught LEGO the importance of building meaningful and sustainable customer experiences.

Related reflections

By editing this article, we are reminded that true innovation often does not arise from deliberate choice, but is born out of adversity. LEGO’s ability to overcome repeated challenges proves that success is built through reflection, adaptation, and continuous experimentation.
